Gloomy weather welcomed me on arrival in Stockholm! Despite that, I tried to make the most of the day walking around and the feeling I had was of an elegant and vibrant city, buzzing with life. It becomes really quiet at night after working hours.

If getting around in the poor weather is not appealing, Stockholm offers many indoor attractions worth a visit: the Abba Museum  offers interactive games and you can find yourself singing with the hologram of the band. If you are lucky enough you could also hear the piano, located in the recording studio, playing, as it is connected with Benny Andersson’s one at his home. At the Skansen open-air museum you can take cover from the elements in some 160 historic buildings; at the Vasa Museum – home to the world’s only surviving 17th century warship- it is amazing to observe how well the ship’s wreck is still  preserved; there is also the Fotografiska exhibition of modern photography, and the Moderna Museet which has a collection of modern and contemporary works by artists including Dali, Matisse and Picasso.

Otherwise you can go shopping: the choice is wide from boutique shops to department stores and market’s stalls. For a break head to the Östermalms Saluhall, an old building dated back to 1888 where you can sample many local delicacies.

View points of Stockholm are many. My favourite was on the edge of Sodermalm along the Soder Malastrand route: from here you have the view over the waterfront and the city. Also, try the Kaknastornet communications tower for a view of the surrounding islands.

With an abundance of cozy cafés and bakeries, a host of fascinating museums and attractions and a compact centre, Stockholm is a wonderful destination regardless of the weather.
