Samos

In May, the island of Samos is lush and green

We are always keeping a watch on any developing situations that have the potential to impact the safety or enjoyment of our guests whilst on holiday. The current refugee crisis is no different and we have been monitoring it closely since 2014 when the boats started to make the crossing.

There is no doubt that the situation for the people making the crossing into Europe is a desperate one, but there now does seem to be light at the end of the tunnel. Since the agreement between the EU and Turkey came into effect on 20th March, refugee numbers arriving on the Greek islands have seen a significant drop.

The main islands affected have been Chios, Lesvos, Kos and Samos. Of these, Samos is the only island currently featured by Sunvil and our local representative, Kellie, has confirmed, today, that no refugees have arrived on the island for over a week.

Kellie continues to say that “visitors to Samos would not know that the island has been a haven for those fleeing from the conflicts in their own country. The resorts are open, tavernas are waiting for clients and the sun is shining. In fact, due to the reduction in tourists to the island you are almost guaranteed your own piece of the Aegean”.

If you would like to discuss a potential holiday to Samos and to receive honest, first-hand advice, please call Nina on 020 8758 4758. Nina was our representative on the island of Samos for a number of years – she lived on the island for 17 years – and has now joined our specialist reservations team.
