For me, my holiday starts at check in and the flight should reflect that.

I've never tried Easyjet and only use Ryanair if there is no other choice short of strapping on a pair of wings! Cramped, no decent catering (twice there has been NO hot food at all and I've been travelling late with a child) and with rude or bored staff. they are only bearable for a couple of hours on routes where proper airlines don't go. By the time you pay for all the add ons, they aren't even that cheap. Incidentally, a friend of mine is going to Ibiza at the end of May and it is costing her more than £400 with Easyjet - not cheap at all!

Three years ago I went to Tolon with Sunvil and you used BMI (I think because XL went bust?) - it was the BEST flight I've ever had in Europe - loads of legroom , good catering and lovely staff. I'm just sorry you don't use them all the time but looking forward to trying out Small Planet when I go to Greece with you some time in the next couple of months.

I generally agree with the main points put forward especially with regards to Ryanair's general disregard in making passengers feel as if they are doing us a favour and not the other way around. However I would hesitate in generalising based on the experience of one's own personal flights.
ALL airlines have days when things do go wrong and we should not generalise based on these. It would be like saying a tour operator or a travel agent is all bad just because something may have gone wrong on your holiday.
When we fly RyanAir or Easyjet we stick to the their rules and their drill, making sure they don't aggravate us and we don't get aggravated. The truth is a high percentage of times, far more often than not things run smoothly, no delays, no hassles. Essentially there is no difference between Ryanair and Easyjet's business models - it's just that Easyjet have a far more positive public perception than the negativity Ryanair seems to enjoy wallowing in.

I agree that budget airlines do not treat their passengers with much respect and that they have, indeed, taken the pleasure and joyful anticipation out of flying. Sadly, Ryanair continues to be the cheapest carrier for my most regular route from Sweden to London.

Every time I fly, I desperately check out all of the other available options but, even with all the additional costs, Ryanair has come in cheaper every single time (a lot of this is to do with the fact that the Ryanair airport is much closer to where I live in Sweden than the other airport). So for me, Ryanair it is. I don't actually have a problem with them, I always make sure that I adhere strictly to the weight and carry-on rules so have never been frustrated at the airport.

It's a luxury when I get to fly with a better airline though :-)

Yes - it's amazing how travel still helps to broaden world views on the earliest world winemakers. Today, it's Georgia (the Country) that has now the privilege of being the oldest winemaking region according to archeological findings. Happy tastings.
